Virginia Wiswell, 98, of Herrin, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025 with the comfort of her two daughters, in Round Rock, Texas.
Virginia was born July 5, 1927 in Marion, Illinois to Fred and Lula (Purdy) Holderfield.
Virginia was united in marriage with the love of her life, Eldon Wiswell on June 8, 1947 at the First Baptist Church in Marion, IL. They enjoyed 72 years of marriage, 69 of those in the same house on Tenth Street, which they extensively remodeled together. Virginia and her husband, Eldon owned and operated Wiswell Christmas Tree Farm for over 30 years. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2019.
Virginia had a green thumb and loved her time in the yard with her flowers, plantings and the gazebo Eldon designed and built for her. She also was in charge of the flowers and alter decorations at the church for many years. She greatly enjoyed her time in the Herrin Garden Club as well. Virginia and Eldon also enjoyed travel and many trips were to the numerous places their daughters lived, spanning from Kentucky to Alaska. They also went on many tours with their fellow church members to New York, DC and the Great Lakes. Artistically, Virginia crafted many gifted and memorial quilts and enjoyed making ceramics for a number of years.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly & Jay Craft of Big Bear City, CA and Sheryl & Michael Koch of Austin, TX; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and 3 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings: Colleen Staudacher, Leonard Holderfield and Kenneth Holderfield.
