Ronald Lee "Peanuts" McConnell Obituary
Ronald Lee “Peanuts” McConnell, 90, of Herrin, passed May 27, 2025 at Sunshine Gardens in Marion, IL.
Peanuts was born February 24, 1935 to Carl & Thelma (Davis) McConnell in Herrin, IL. He married Dolores Lindsey on July 5, 1957 in Pickens, SC.
Peanuts worked for Borens I.G.A. through high school. He attended S.I.U. Carbondale. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years in Frankfurt, Germany.
Peanuts worked as an agent for Metropolitan Insurance Company. He was a partner for Webb-McConnell Insurance Agency in Marion, IL. He was a salesman for Baccus Roofing and Siding. He then was employed by Old Ben Coal Company until retirement. After retirement, he worked as a driver for Williamson County Programs On Aging.
Peanuts was a member of the Herrin Elks Lodge #1146 and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was also a proud supporter of the HerrinFesta Italiana sporting the #7 license plate.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores McConnell of Marion; 3 children, Lisa McCree of Carterville, IL, Michael & Treca McConnell of Vienna, IL, and Stephen McConnell of St. Louis, MO; 7 grandchildren, Lindsey Falmier & Ambra Harper, Garen & Bailey McConnell, Marissa Ross & Aaron Taylor, Alec McConnell , Maya McConnell, Gavin McConnell, and Amelia McConnell; 4 great grandchildren, Bram Falmier, Iyla Falmier, Shepherd McConnell, and Marshell Taylor; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brad & Samara Lindsey of Clemmons, NC; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl L. McConnell; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bart & Mary Ann Lindsey.
Peanuts’ wishes were to be cremated; a graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. June 21, 2025 at Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin. A Celebration of Life will follow the graveside at the Herrin Elks Lodge #1146, 221 East Monroe Street, Herrin, IL 62948. Memorial donations may be made Herrin Elk’s Lodge# 1146 Scholarship Fund, 221 East Monroe Street, Herrin, IL 62948.
